Having grown up in the 90’s I have grunge in my DNA, it also doesn’t hurt that my dad is a musician and turned me on to the Stones and  AC/DC before I could walk.  As much as I love Rock & Roll, I am even more crazy about the style behind it. Lots of leather, slinky tanks, skinny jeans and bad ass boots…whats not to love?! As rocker as these pieces look when worn together, these are actually amazingly basic and are a great way to add some glam to your wardrobe. Here are a few essential pieces to achieve that rockstar look, even if you don’t party like one…

Tuxedo Jacket: A tuxedo jacket is a great piece to have in your wardrobe. Go all out rocker by pairing it with leather skinnies and no bra or take a more modern day tailored approach by casually throwing it over a crisp white button up and some skinny jeans.

Slinky Tanks: Loose fitting racer-back tanks just ooze that sultry appeal that rock and roll chic is all about, not only that but they work double duty! Layering essentials like this look just as good tucked into a pencil skirt and topped of with a cardigan for a day at the office.

Skinnies: Leather skinnies, lacquered denim skinnies or just plain skinny jeans–These are a winter wardrobe must and look great with just about anything you pair them with. For an all out rocker vibe pair them with a basic loose fitting top and some heavy metal accessories. Feeling a bit more polished? Pair them with an oversize poncho and a denim button-up.

Leather: Black leather and silver hardware just scream rocker chic to me. Accessories are a great way to infuse a bit of edge into your everyday look without going all in. If you are more prone to preppy than to punk rock then accessories are the perfect place to start. My Michael Kors bucket bag pairs perfectly with the edgiest looks in my closet, yet takes on a whole other vibe when I  wear it with softer silhouettes.

Studs and leather are a lot more commonplace in fashion these days. When styling this look at home remember that balance is key. The debut collection by Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent is a perfect example of rock n’ roll with a modern atheistic. The secret is to add a touch of leather here or there not to pile on piece after piece. Last but not least, make sure your hair and make-up match your look, nothing says rocker chic like some messy hair and smudged eyeliner.
