Forth of July Shopping

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays! It is an excuse for family and friends to get together to celebrate America’s independence…and lets be honest, go shopping for a new outfit. For those of you lucky enough to enjoy a day of BBQ and fireworks you may soon realize it can be difficult to strike a balance between dressing for the occasion and looking like you are an American flag that escaped from someone’s yard. The key here is to maintain your individuality while layering in some red, white and blue. Here are some tips on how to create an outfit that is perfectly patriotic.

Pick a Color: One of the ways to avoid looking like you’ve escaped from a flag pole is to be selective in your use of red, white and blue. It is safe to go with one or maybe two of these colors instead of all three. Start with a printed shirt in red for example, and build from there. Denim is a great way to incorporate your blues, and nothing is more reminiscent of all-American style than some classic distressed denim cutoffs.

Versatile Vixen: One thing I have learned with holidays like this is to be prepared for anything! One minute you maybe relaxing by the pool with a margarita in hand, and out to dinner the next. Pack a bag with enough essentials to keep you covered. This may include an extra pair of shoes such as wedges or sandals, a chic pool cover or maxi dress that can be thrown on at a moments notice, sun hat, clutch or smaller handbag for a night on the town, your make-up bag and a piece of jewelry or two that pull your look together.

Stars and Stripes: Take a page from our Nation’s flag and rock a print with stars or stripes, rarely both! There are some really fun and inexpensive options at stores like Forever 21, and H&M. Plus either of these options would be a great addition to your closet if you select a more classic shape.

Blank slate: White is a great basic building block to add to. Try rocking a pair of basic white skinny jeans and a chambray shirt with a piece of statement jewelry for more of a understated classic look. To add a pop of color try adding a red clutch into the mix.

Make sure to dress for your occasion and don’t just pick an outfit because it’s cute. If you aren’t comfortable, it will show. Here are some fun options to choose from, I think you can guess what my outfit is going to look like this Independence Day! Have a great weekend and as always…
