This season at NYFW there were some stand out trends making their way down the runway. Plaids and sheers were everywhere, sequins showed some serious staying power and the hem on mens pants just keep getting shorter. I had the pleasure of checking out a mix of designers from one of my absolute faves, Dennis Basso, to designers that are new to me such as Carmen Marc Valvo. Here are some of the highlights…

J. Crew

Preppy embellishments, luxe textures and and fifty shades of grey ruled the J. Crew presentation for Fall 2015 at New York Fashion Week . I don’t know about you, but these are a few of my favorite things so I was particularly over joyed with their line up. While I absolutely adore runway shows, for ready to wear lines it seems much more appropriate to present a collection in a up close and personal setting where guests can meander from look to look and take in every detail.

The accessories in this collection were just as good as the clothes. From statement making shoes and chunky scarves to large clutches perfect for stashing in a work tote, there was just enough of a variety to capture every working girls personal sense of style. To view the full collection be sure to check out Mercedes-Benz’s photo gallery. You will not be disappointed!

Carmen Marc Valvo

To be honest, I didn’t know much about Valvo until I saw his collection but the second I saw the first look walking down the runway I knew that was going to change. I was shocked to find out that it was Valvo’s 25th anniversary (I must have been hibernating under a rock) and he hails from a pretty strong background including Nina Ricci and Dior.

There was such a geek chic style about his collection it was hard not to love. I am not usually a big fan of red, but the among such a simple color palette of greys, whites and blacks it really changed my mind. I was a big fan of the styling of this collection which included oversized black glasses minimalistic makeup and a slightly unkempt look. Sheer is one of my staples and the way each piece revealed a peek-a-boo without being overtly sexy stood out in a great way.

Dennis Basso

Several seasons ago I was introduced to the pure awesomeness that is Dennis Basso. He has a very strong sense of signature style and makes some of the most intricate beaded gowns and luxurious furs to hit the runway (I know fur is controversial so I apologize in advance for offending anyone). Basso originally caught my attention by throwing a fur over such day appropriate looks and making them look effortless. He also inspired me to start rocking more sequins and beads in broad daylight.

This season was a bit more simplistic in terms of patterns and color choices than I have seen in previous collections, but the glamour was still turned all the way up. I also loved the center parted low bun his models wore for the show and to this day Basso remains one of my favorite designers to hit the runway. Dennis_Basso_1 Dennis_Basso_2 Dennis_Basso_3 Dennis_Basso_4 Dennis_Basso Dennis_Basso_5
