Black-on-black-outfit

Happy Fashion Week! I am so excited to be back in my favorite city for my fifth season at the Lincoln Center! Each fashion show is different from one to the next, each runway more extravagant than the last, you really never know what to expect. On the other hand, the one thing that you can count on is the color of choice for all NYFW personnel is  black on black on black.

While it may seem like wearing all black should be easy to pull off, if it isn’t layered right it can look quite depressing and frumpy. As a fashion blogger, those two words are not really what I aim to achieve when getting dressed for one of the most important fashion events of the year. Being that I love black and it is one of my favorite colors,  I am always happy to except the challenge of find new ways to layer my black pieces together. Since I will be working a majority of the time my priority is to create a look that is functional but also fashion forward.

I have found texture to be one of my best friends when dressing on the darker side. Varying materials creates an obvious separation between each layer of clothing that I am wearing, and thanks to the texture you don’t have to worry about all of your ‘blacks matching’. For this look I started with my fave lacquered pants and paired them with a billowy silk peter pan top. To create some definition to my shape I layered a mildly fitted knit jacket over the top which stops right at my waist.

When piling on layers of black, accessories are also a great way to show some personality. I love mixing an all black outfit with metallics, like a gold statement necklace or my fave black pumps with silver spikes by Steve Madden. Because black is a pretty neutral color the options are pretty endless! See you on the runway…

Stay Stylish,
XOJ
