Fall is one of my favorite seasons for many reasons…hot coffee, endless opportunities to layer and new trends hitting the runways (and streets) of the Fashion Week circuit. Thanks to Neiman Marcus at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, bloggers and stylists alike gathered to scope out a sneak preview of everything that will keep you #trending this Fall.

Styled by the über talented Alex Yáñez, Neiman’s showed off layers upon layers of luxe wools, silks, furs and fringe in a myriad of color palettes. From winter whites, and ravishing reds, to emerald hues and dissident denim, this Fall is a fabulous opportunity to break out of the trusty ole’ #blackonblackonblack routine.

Here are a few of my faves from the Fall lineup:

The Last Layer:

This season is all about piling on the layers (yay!), so just when you thought you couldn’t possibly add one more layer, toss another one on…and while you’re at it, make it a random print or fabrication that you aren’t already wearing. This trend lets you be the ultimate mix master with layers.

**San Diego Style Tip: For those of you who live locally in San Diego, or other climates where the seasons seem to have been gobbled up by the sun, don’t fret, there is still plenty of opportunity to play with this trend to!! Instead of opting for all of the heavy wools and furs that you will see in arctic climates, go for thin cashmeres, gauzy cottons, and sumptuous silks in sleeveless, short sleeved, vest cuts and pashminas/kimonos/ponchos. This way you can still layer different fabrications and get the same effect without overheating!

Folklorica:

My heart did a little happy dance when I saw this look! Fringe, suede, denim on denim…it is boho chic to the max, and runs right in line with my current vibes for the summer. The primary shift in the trend seems to be in the silhouette.  Where summers is all about loose and flowing layers, Fall seems to have a more statuesque feel. Flared denim anchors the overall look, and looks best when accompanied by chunky platform heels.

Modern Fur: 

I know fur can be a touchy subject for some, but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater on this one! Many designers are huge animal lovers and have made a steady transition from fur to faux. There is something about this look that is just so jet-set chic that I can’t help but feel glamorous when wearing it! While I have opted not to purchase any real furs myself, I want you to know there are so many fab faux furs out there, see below for my fave faux furs!

If you live in the desert, a fur parka may not be the best way to spend your Fall clothing budget! Also keep in mind that trends are just that, trends. They come and they go, so if you don’t love it…leave it. One of my favorite motto’s in life has always been ‘if it feels so wrong its right, it probably is.’ So don’t be afraid to throw the rule book out the window this Fall, and start a trend of your own!
