The Joshua Tree Diaries >> Part One.

Heading out to Joshua Tree, I had no idea what to expect.

All I knew was that back in the day, U2 named an album after the place so it couldn’t be all that bad. Itching for a good road trip, my girl Ashley from AshGabes Photography, and I, piled into her SUV with snacks, her camera and a ton of new summer essentials from Forever 21.

The drive was amazing – filled with windmills, and the desolate desert off in the distance. Once we got to Joshua Tree itself, it was fun to take in the sights, and the town itself, (which was about a block and a half, and filled with restaurants promising you the best pie/burger/coffee/beer in town).

The entrance of the park was tucked behind these cute pastel colored residences, making it so hard to see that we almost missed the park completely! This would have been a complete travesty, because it was GORGEOUS!

Everywhere you looked were these beautiful Joshua Trees which were like small palm like trees, and littered the landscape for miles. We moved from location to location just enjoying the scenery ( a few ballast point brews) and getting to know each other a little better – It’s always fun to find creatives to connect with, especially ones who share a kindred spirit for wandering off the beaten path.

When heading out to the desert, I still like to feel put together and fight the urge to simply wear sweats the whole time. Some of my fave desert road trips essentials are over the knee boots, suede or fringe anything, and a fun baseball cap to keep the sun off of my face. I have learned not to over pack, and so I end up mixing and matching a few basics, so functional accessories like hats are a great way to go without having to worry about losing your favorite jewelry or accessories.

Stay tuned for my last installment of our Joshua Tree road trip coming soon – the suede skirt and bodysuit are killer, and also involves tales from my first time ever shooting in a body suit sans anything else but heels and spray tan, (and in the middle of the desert)! It was hilarious, trust me.
