There is a chic simplicity about a French woman’s style that is hard to resist. Where American women tend to be after the latest and greatest, a French woman isn’t after the newest shade of lipstick, or the handbag du jour, but rather acquiring the perfect mix of classic designer pieces, reliable basics and eccentric flea market finds to make a look uniquely her own. This attitude and approach can be exceptionally useful when it comes to defining and developing your own style without adding a bunch of fashion fluff that doesn’t suit you ( and that you ultimately won’t wear).

For example, the sequin skirt in this look was a second-hand score from My Sister’s Closet. Sequins weren’t big at the time, but being me…I am attracted to anything gold, sequined or shiny…and it only cost me a whopping $4.00 so it was  a no brainer. However, that doesn’t mean I am not willing to invest in some nicer pieces. For me its more of a quality over quantity type of thing. The handbag in this post is from Rebecca Minkoff’s latest collection and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, probably why its actually named the ‘Love’ crossbody — I have been carrying it for a few weeks now and highly recommend it,  such a classic shape and size and has AH-mazing details..

Mixing price points in your style is a great way to save money, and thrifting in particular is a great way to add more eclectic pieces to your wardrobe that other people won’t have, or as the French would say, a way to add some je ne sais quoi to your wardrobe.

J
