Classics, with a Twist.
There is something about the classics that is so…well, classic. As I get older I tend to opt for a ‘less is more’ approach to a lot of things, my wardrobe being one of them. When I admire another women’s style, it is often her ability to look effortlessly chic in the most simplistic attire. A white T and some well-loved jeans, a LBD with some stunning stilettos, a pair of cutoffs and a chambray top–the list could go on, and on.
As I have continued to edit my closet, I have made sure to stock it full of options that fall in line with these basics. Its kind of ridiculous how much faster I can get ready as a result. Now when I open my closet instead of seeing an explosion of colors, textures and prints…I see a consistent color palette with pops of color. Much bettah!
One classic trend I tend to gravitate towards in the summer are stripes, they are a great go-to when I need to pull an outfit together quickly. While I do wear a lot of denim cut-offs, I like to stray once and while, and these crochet shorts from Nordstrom are the perfect excuse.
Style is all about finding your rhythm in fashion, once you do that, finding pieces that play in harmony with the rest of your closet becomes infinitely easier. Now that I have a closet full of classic pieces that I love, I have started pairing pieces together that you wouldn’t normally expect, like leopard print pumps and a snapback.
Snapbacks have become a regular in my #OOTD rotation. My first snapback ever was by Medium Apparel, I picked it up at a Phoenix Fashion Week Garment District event several years ago and still have it. Since then I have acquired a few more from their line, one of my faves being the Crew one I’m wearing in this post, I love the old english writing!
What are your closet classics, and how do you mix things up?
