Chic Travels: 3 Road-Tested Hacks for Staying in Shape on Vacation
Is it just me, or is maintaining a workout routine on the road (especially vacation) is one of the toughest things to do!
Yummy food tempting you at every turn, plush hotel beds convincing you that sleeping in is much better than working out and the simple excuse of ‘I’m on vacation’ make it nearly impossible to keep a fitness routine going. Imagine how difficult it would be to workout when aboard the luxurious Benetti yacht. I think I trip on a yacht like that would leave me permanently relaxed!
I can’t tell you how many times I have packed my gym clothes and running shoes, only to ask myself why I took up the room when they went unused the whole trip. With my half-marathon training in full effect with only 9 weeks to go, a birthday trip to Cabo sounded like sudden death for staying in shape. Thankfully I saw vacation mode coming from a mile away and was determined to stick to my guns, plan ahead and do things a little differently this time around.
I am happy to report that after my vacation, I came back feeling refreshed, balanced and even managed to lose weight while I was there! How? Super easy, check out these three helpful hacks that kept me in shape on my vacay:
Hack #1. Don’t Eat Like Sh*t!
While there was PLENTY of room service this trip, for most meals I opted for healthier foods this trip aka…the stuff I normally eat. I love that the Sheraton Grand in Los Cabos has fresh green juices and other healthy options on their menu. It made the days I did sleep in and skip my workout feel guilt free!
Hack #2. Stick to What you Know
If you are going someplace completely foreign to you…probably not the best time to make grandiose plans to try some crazy new workout routine. If you normally take workout classes, saying you’ll head to the hotel gym in hopes of a good workout, is like saying you’ll go to In N’ Out and hope they added salads to the menu. I know I love running and Yoga, so I packed my running shoes and fave YOGASMOGA gear and took the opportunity to check out what my options were to get my namaslay on. If it ain’t broke, don’t break it. Especially on vacation.
Hack #3. Plan Ahead
As fate would have it, Cabo had AH-mazing options for yoga. By planning ahead I was able to stumble upon The Spa at Pedregal, an INCREDIBLE oasis sitting atop Cabo with the most breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean I have seen south of the border. Last year when I went on a family vacation, I also looked for excursions the family could do to keep us active. Although lounging around the pool or on the beach is great, it did feel good to go and check out the Guanacaste excursions offered by Buena Vista del Rincon. Their eco-adventure park day pass was pretty cool and we were active all day without even realizing, burning lots of calories!
Anyway, back to Cabo, for $35 they offer a week of access to their gym, lap pool and lockers. They also offer $15 drop ins for sunset yoga and have other awesome options such as a jacuzzi, facial, oil massage and gel manicure just to name a few. The perfect way to wrap a birthday sweat session! I think
I am always looking for new and improved ways to get my workout on during my travels, so drop a comment below! I would love to hear some of your secrets for staying fit on the road!
