Chic Essentials // The Clutch
From the street style savants at Fashion Week to the office aficionados working a 9-5, a good clutch is a must. They are great for a girl on the go because they hold all of the essentials you need (ID, cellphone, money, lipstick, compact and keys) without forcing you to lug your work tote everywhere you go . One of my favorite tricks of the trade is to keep my clutch in my workbag, then grab it for coffee meetings with clients or happy hour with friends. For this reason, selecting the right clutch is important so I am not constantly switching out my bag of tricks to match my outfit. When selecting a clutch of your own there are a few important factors to consider:
Size: Oversized, envelope, slouchy or structured…there are so many options to choose from. Just remember, you want this baby to last past one season so try not to get too trendy. You also want to consider what your essentials are and make sure the clutch you are selecting fits them all without looking like a stuffed sausage.
Color: Personally, I opted for a leather cobalt blue clutch by Marc Jacobs. It is the perfect size and compliments a majority of the color scheme in my wardrobe. I am wary of prints just because I fall in and out of love with them semi-frequently but that is just me.
Versatility: This is another reason I shy away from prints unless it is more subdued. I prefer to go the less is more route with a clutch so that I can pair it with more. By doing so I can also spring for a nicer clutch instead of buying several less expensive options.
Texture: Texture is a great way to add interest to your clutch, just make sure the fabrication is durable and still looks good with some age on it.
Here are a few clutches I have my eye on for the spring:
