Breaking Boarders: A Vlog Exploring the Streets of Rosarito with The Bosh Bosh Project

Traveling has become an obsession of mine over the past few years.

The more I see, the more I want to know – and have come realize I have so much to learn about the world around me.

Last week, I took a day trip to Mexico with the girl squad from Bosh Bosh, an ethical non-profit fashion brand dedicated to making a difference for women and their communities in Liberia.

Charlene, the founder of Bosh Bosh has seen the world, a former Peace Corp volunteer founded the brand when she saw the challenges women and children face on a daily basis in rural Salala, Liberia.

She helped create a community of artisans, teaching women how to sew from the scraps and repurposed materials available there, and transformed them into such a cool and colorful variety of AH-mazing handbags and accessories, all handmade by women in Liberian communities and whose proceeds are then reinvested into schools, scholarships and education for the communities there.

They just got a whole new line of goodies, and so we decided it would be a super fun experience to hit the streets of Rosarito, a town just south of Tijuana.

It was super fun and I decided to grab my camera and film the experience along the way, with the help of Charlene and the rest of the Bosh Bosh crew – its my first video I have edited like this so I hope you enjoy it – its a little ‘Blair Witchy’ with the stability but hey, whateves! 🙂

When I used to think about TJ, all I knew was what I had heard, the cray stories about bachelor parties and clubs – so needless to say, I was blown away by the incredible food, scenery and vast amount beauty that surrounded me.

We spent the day roaming the coast and enjoying everything from delicious street tacos from Telefonica, at a gastro park filled with artisan food trucks, to an afternoon caffeine pick-me up at this really cool coffee shop called Café Néron filled with cozy couches and a library of fun reads to spend a lazy Sunday.

More than anything, it was incredibly humbling to see how in spite of the apparent poverty that surrounded them, the people were truly happy and enjoyed living a life of simplicity.

On the way home, a few of us ended up walking across the boarder to “save time” – which shockingly ended up taking 2 hours – a trek that many of our neighbors to the south make every day in order to provide for their families.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it reminded not only to be thankful for my own circumstances, but it was a sobering reminder to see the challenges others face on a daily basis without even batting an eye.

Boarders or boundaries – whatever you want to call them, are by definition to create limits – but in a world of infinite possibilities perhaps its time we stop building walls and start exploring new frontiers.

Mexico has truly become a home away from home for me, and one that if you haven’t had a chance to explore – I strongly encourage you to, it is something you must truly live to believe.
