Off Duty >> The Art of Casual Dressing.
There are two words in the English language that I truly relish – Off Duty.
Not just because it implies champagne brunches and copious amounts of shopping – but the ‘off duty’ look itself – has been one of my fave’s ever since I discovered the meaning of style.
Since my first days as a production minion during NYFW – it was not so much the racks upon racks of next seasons trendy threads that excited me, I was enamored by the ‘model of duty’ look – which embodied the perfect balance between effortless personal style, and a 2 f*cks given kind of attitude.
So how does one achieve the perfect balance of off-duty style? My signature ‘off-duty’ style tends to come in the form of elevated everyday essentials like my white sneakers, a distressed denim jacket (that seems to get better with age), and a ever-multiplying collection of hats and my Taj fringe crossbody from Rebecca Minkoff that adds a little somthin-somethin to any look!.
The rest is easy – from there I just add in a basic t-shirt dress, or some cutoffs and a shoulder-bearing top and I am good to go! The key to building the perfect off-duty wardrobe is to find a color palette that resonates with you, so that pieces easily mix, and match your looks from dressy to casual.
Look for patterns in your buying habits – are you a shoe girl? an accessory girl? a blazer + skinnnies girl? Personally, my accessories tend to be the anchor to my look and the clothing is often a neutral back drop, almost like a canvas, but everyone’s essentials are different!
So next time you reach for your yoga pants for Sunday brunch – that’s ok! BUT – resist the urge to just throw your style out the window! Instead, channel your inner Gigi Hadid by pairing them with a fun shoulder bearing top, a high pony, and some sunnies and a sweatshirt around the waist – and see how you feel!
The off-duty world of style is your Oyster!
